Which napkin size serves which purpose?

How many cloth napkins does your business need?
What matters is how many clean napkins you need before used ones have been washed and are ready to return to service. Allow for multiple sittings, additional changes during service and events outside your normal daily operation.
Establish the time until laundry is ready for use
First, determine the longest period your stock must cover without a usable laundry return. Depending on your routine, this includes collecting soiled linen, transport, washing, drying and finishing.
Laundry that arrives after the tables have been set cannot help with that service. Plan around the time when the napkins are actually folded and available again.
Worked example: three services without a laundry return
You are planning three consecutive services with 60 guests each. One table napkin is issued per guest. The processed laundry will be available again before the fourth service.

Important: The reserve of 20 napkins is an assumption for this example. Set your own reserve according to actual usage, your events and the reliability of your laundry routine.
Calculate the quantity first, then compare packs
For a target stock of 200 matching napkins, you could choose two packs of 100 or four packs of 50, for example. Compare the total price for the same item and size. Deduct any existing napkins that remain usable from the total stock required.
Review your figures after the first few services: Record the napkins issued, additional changes and the lowest level of clean stock available. This gives you a more accurate basis for your next order than the number of seats alone.
Which napkin suits your service and laundry process?
For everyday operations, appearance on a freshly set table is only part of the decision. The napkin must also suit your finishing process, folding style and team’s working routine. Test these points with your chosen version before placing a larger order.

This depends on the place setting, fold and desired coverage on the lap. The 40 × 40 cm format is more compact; 50 × 50 cm provides more fabric. Test both sizes with your cutlery and the actual space between place settings.
The category alone does not establish suitability for every washing and finishing process. Compare the specific item’s care label with your laundry service’s process. A trial cycle helps you assess the result at your own place setting before ordering in quantity.
